The last quarter of the year 2014 marks the beginning of many new changes, the most notable of all being the release of ORAS on 21 Nov (Fri) and the transition towards these games at the end of the year as part of the official 2014-15 VGC season. In anticipation of this change, a new string of in-house tournaments have been planned for the quarter, and some new implements will be rolled out in the near future to improve the player experience in our in-house tournaments.
New ladder system
For a start, a new ladder system will be implemented to track the progress of each player throughout the season(s), and points will be awarded for participation in an in-house tournament. The breakdown for points awarded for an in-house tournament is as follows:
Total points = Position score + Participation score + Bonus
Position scores are based on a players’ standings at the end of each tournament. If there is a top cut, the final standings are based on the top cut positions. The scores are
1st = 110
2nd = 100
3rd, 4th = 80
5th to 8th = 50
9th to 16th = 30
17th to 32nd = 10
A participation score is given for successfully completing a tournament (i.e. not dropping out). It has a score of 10.
A bonus score is given for some tournaments in which a certain objective is achieved. For example, a player in a winning faction will be given some bonus points.
Example calculation: A player achieves 2nd place in swiss and moves on to the top cut, but is eliminated in the semi-finals (Top 4). Total points = 80 (top 4) + 10 = 90.
The ladder will be in the testing phase this season and is expected to stabilize and reset after each major tournament (i.e. Elite Four Challenge, December Tournament). Players near the top of the ladder at the end of the season can look forward to being inducted in the TRVG Hall of Fame and may, if possible but not guranteed, be granted priority seeding or round byes for upcoming major tournaments.
